
Cuba declares a day of official mourning for the death of Elizabeth II

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has ordered the declaration of a day of official mourning on the island due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II of England, who died Thursday at the age of 96 at Balmoral Palace in Scotland.
The Cuban Foreign Ministry said on its Twitter account that Díaz-Canel’s decision will be in force until midnight this Friday (local time) “on the occasion of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland”.
The Cuban president himself showed on Thursday his “deep regret” over the death of Elizabeth II. “On behalf of the Cuban people and government, I express my deepest condolences to His Royal Highness Prince Charles, the rest of the Royal Family and the British people and government,” he said on Twitter.

Havana, 9 September 2022. Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Thursday mourned the death of Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96.
“With deep sorrow we have learned of the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. On behalf of the Cuban people and government, I express my heartfelt and deepest condolences to Her Royal Highness, Prince Charles, the rest of the Royal Family and the British people and government,” the Cuban leader said in a message on Twitter.
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez also offered his deepest condolences to the Royal Family, British people and government, on the occasion of the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
On Twitter, the Cuban embassy in the United Kingdom mourned the death of Queen Elizabeth II and extended its deepest condolences “to the Royal Family and the British people for this sad moment”.
Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor, the second daughter of King George V, was crowned on June 2, 1953, becoming longest-serving British monarch (about 70 years).
According to local media, her reign was marked by her strong sense of duty, transition from empire to Commonwealth and also the frequent contacts with 15 UK prime ministers.
